Hey 👋
We started Altrova because we kept seeing the same thing: a compliance mandate lands in Pakistan or the Gulf, founders scramble, and six months later someone builds the obvious thing. Slowly, expensively, without the regulatory context.
This newsletter is what we wish had existed. Every two weeks, one idea that already works in a mature regulated market, mapped to the regulatory window that’s open right now, with a clear breakdown of how you would actually build it.
This week’s idea comes from 🇬🇧 and already has 500+ clients in Europe: Automated KYC/AML for fintechs. The SBP window is open now 🔗

Automated KYC/AML compliance for fintechs
When the FCA mandated digital KYC and AML screening for all UK payment companies and e-money institutions, an entire SaaS category was born overnight. Sumsub, Onfido, ComplyAdvantage, Sardine. They now collectively serve thousands of fintechs across Europe with API-first identity verification, sanctions screening, and compliance reporting.
The State Bank of Pakistan issued the exact same mandate in its Digital Financial Services Policy. AML/CFT compliance is now a licence condition for every EMI and payment company operating in Pakistan. There is no local SaaS vendor. International tools don’t support CNIC, biometric, or NADRA verification. The gap is sitting open.
Problem
- Manual KYC takes 3–5 working days per customer; creates serious onboarding drop-off
- No local vendor supports CNIC + NADRA biometric verification out of the box
- Compliance failures = licence suspension; the stakes are existential for small fintechs
- In-house build costs $200K+ and takes 12 months — most fintechs cannot afford it
Solution
- API-first KYC/AML SaaS built natively for Pakistani ID infrastructure (CNIC, NADRA, biometric)
- Identity check, PEP screening, and sanctions match completed in under 60 seconds
- Automated compliance dashboard for direct SBP and SECP regulatory reporting
- Per-verified-user pricing: starts at $0.30/verification, scales with fintech growth
🌟 How to bring this to Pakistan & the Gulf
The local compliance stack doesn’t exist yet. Here’s the shortest path to market:
- 01Start with one licensed fintech or EMI as a design partner. They need this now and will co-fund the first build
- 02Integrate NADRA's VERISYS API for CNIC verification (government B2B, approval takes 4–6 weeks)
- 03Build a sanctions screener on top of open OFAC + UN lists first, then layer in local PEP lists
- 04Vibe-code the first dashboard with a compliance report template SBP actually accepts
- 05Once one bank-licensed partner signs, the next ten fintechs will follow. The SBP mandate forces the conversation

E-Invoicing Compliance Platform for SMEs
Saudi Arabia’s ZATCA e-invoicing mandate was enforced in phases from 2021 to 2023. Every B2B transaction above a threshold now requires a digitally signed, structured invoice. A full compliance SaaS network emerged to serve it.
- FBR e-invoicing mandate rolling out to all registered businesses in Pakistan...
- Most SMEs still issue PDF or manual invoices with no audit trail...
